The VP Debate

10/13/2012

I thought that the vice presidential debate was actually pretty good.  There were many viewpoints that were brought up that create the opportunity for further discussion from both sides, and hopefully inspire those who watched or listened to research those points more thoroughly.  Of course I believe that if you do you will see that Ryan has the better approach on how to handle the economy and foreign affairs, which I'm sure many would say is debatable, the exact point entirely.

On the downside of the debate were the constant interruptions by both biden and  the moderator.  I stopped counting when they exceeded 2 dozen.  I'm sure that it was part of their game plan, after all the easiest way to eliminate a counterpoint is to not allow it to be fully verbalized.  So if being rude is a plus, give that one to biden.

The other downside was the volume of biden's voice.  I have often found that if someone is lying, or doesn't believe what they are saying is factual, they tend to raise their voice in order to make their point.  biden did that throughout the debate.  If he wanted to make a point, stating it clearly and in a moderate tone would have done it just fine, however, by raising his voice as he did so often, led me to think that he wasn't only trying to convince the people of his views, but also himself.  The second you start to yell, you loose the argument by loosing the perception of control.

The last of the downsides were the outright lies that biden presented as fact.  You can find that breakdown anywhere by now, but here are a few:

'More security was never asked for' by the US Ambassador in Libya.  Sworn testimony by the State Department said that they did ask for added security.

'Ryan voted for war and biden did not'.  A review of voting records shows biden voted for the war as well, I guess he forgot.

I feel that I should also point out that Iran has missiles.  They have used them in the past.  So would it be a stretch to say that while one large nuclear weapon may not be in the immediate future, many smaller warheads could be?

Why is biden constantly referring to China as our ally?  They are far from it and have repeatedly supported, as do the Russians, those that wish harm to democracy and the US.

The theme that the US needs to "be more like China" keeps cropping up.

Scary as that is, it is just as scary to think that the next four years under obama would be any different from the last four if he is re-elected.  The facts are in, do the research.  If they knew what they were doing, why wait four years before starting?  Scarier yet, if they truly did know what they were doing, why would they change now?
