The unions won, no massive layoffs or plant closers and all they had to give up in return was to not get paid when they don't work.
obama won, continued donations to the dnc and his re-election campaign will fill the coffers once more.
And on it's face GM won, showing a profit, as reported last February.
Who lost? Well we can start with the American tax payers, they are still out over $25 billion.
The non-union GM employees who had their pensions liquidated are losers in this as well.
The 1,200 car dealerships that were shut down wouldn't consider this a win either.
The US Treasury is holding 500 million shares of GM stock, Since when is it a win for the government to own public holdings?
And what about GM? Has there been any indication that the "profit" was due to anything other than the bail out? The fact is that we won't know if the bailout was successful until the funds are returned to the taxpayers, the government is out of GM's back room, and GM proves that they can swim on their own.
For all of the grief the left is giving to Bain Capital it would appear that obama used their blueprint for this bail out. The only difference is that obama used OUR money, Bain would have used private capital. That difference is HUGE. That is the difference between capitalism and socialism. The government has proven that they are in know way able to handle private concerns and keep them profitable, look at Amtrak, look at the Postal Service. Once a company knows that good old Uncle Sam is there with a handout they seem to loose all responsibility for being solvent on there own.
A win for obama? Yeah, with his type of investing he always wins, as the money flows right back to him and the dnc. So without bailouts, without government funding of private companies ie Solyndra the dnc coffers would begin to dry up. Why hasn't this loophole in government spending vs. donations to campaign funds been closed? Look who's in power.
