Will Freedom be the Price?

I read an interesting report yesterday that inferred that it didn't matter who won the election on Tuesday.  That no matter what happens, come mid-decade there will be an economic surge in spite of government policies.  That's great news, right?

Well, if it is true, the real question changes from who is going to fix the economy to who is going to let the people reap the benefits of a lush economy?

What I mean by this is:  Are we going to get even lazier than we already are, and let the government take over even more of the private sector responsibilities, giving up our freedoms in the process?

Are we going to allow the government to use the economic surge in order to enact even more taxes in the name of programs and regulations just to gorge the already too big, too inefficient beast it has become?

I was speaking with a gentleman the other day about social programs.  It was his position that the private sector could not help those who needed a hand getting back on their feet, that the only way was to allow the government to handle the extensive welfare programs.

Under obama that means constant hand outs with no push to get those people back into productive society.  Simply send those people a check every month, their job will be to go to the mailbox then go to the bank.  Those who are too coddled for even that stress will have direct deposit.

I am not talking about those who cannot work or the elderly or those who need a short term 'leg up'.  I am talking about those that take advantage of the 'system' in order not to work.  In order not to make the effort.  In order to stay the 'victim'.

The fact is that the percentage of these type of individuals may be small, but the numbers are growing, and will grow exponentially if obama gets another term.  After all, why put forth the effort if the only reward is to support the government, if with no effort the government can support you?

The wealth in this country is not what it was when these social programs were enacted.  It is much, much greater.  The philosophy of letting the government collect money to distribute to the poor is no longer efficient.  There needs to be the incentive for community to take care of its own.  And they would if the government got out of the way.

Maybe not those on the left.  They are notorious for not donating for the public good.  That is why these programs have become so popular.  Their mentality is "why should I give out my money, when the government can give out someone else's."

These are the philosophies that will create a strangle hold on any boon.  The cycle must be broken now.  Once those that depend solely on government become the majority, the government gains complete control.  Would you vote to not 'get paid'?

It is our responsibility to control government, they are the tool for freedom, we are not the tools for government.

We the people need to take responsibility for each other.  The government has its place in the effort, but make no mistake, that place needs to be held to the highest standards and the strictest parameters.

We have lost most of our sense of community over the years.  Is it because we have grown to such numbers that it is impractical?  Have we just become apathetic to others?  No.  It is because the government has stepped in and taken over to such an extent that we have lost our will help.  If there is always someone there to carry you, why would you learn to walk?

Bringing these issues down to a more local level gives everyone greater initiative to act and help.

The government is there to work for us, and that job should be very limited in scope.  There is already a contract in effect, it is called the Constitution of the United States.  If we allow those in power to subvert that contract and do as 'they' see fit, to do what 'they' feel is best for the US, and not what WE the PEOPLE have decided was in OUR best interest, we have only ourselves to blame.

With obama comes a lose of freedom.  You only have to look at the programs he touts and the philosophies he has followed and preaches.  Then look to the history of the world political.  The parallel is there, it is obvious, it is scary.

If we elect obama to another term we are condemning the US to decades of government suppression and intervention.  This is in addition to the elevated vulnerability we will have in the face of our enemies.  The events in Libya cannot be pushed to the background.  There will be many more such atrocities under obama, because his philosophy is NOT in our best interest, it is in his.  he has only acted when it was in his best political interest to do so.

So I guess my final question is this:  Do you want to take back our country and have the government working for the PEOPLE's best interests, or do you want to simply hand the reins back over to a person that has done NOTHING that was in the best interest of anyone but himself except coincidentally?
